Anne and Ruth are working on a classmate’s project at RISD. They’re finding locations on a Global Positioning System (GPS) device. When they do, they then take a picture, and the other team has to then find the spot where they took the picture.

Ruth, an undergraduate in furniture and textile design, lives just off Thayer Street on the East Side. She went to high school in Colorado, and was born in Austria. “My dad was in education. We were living in Austria while he was working in Eastern Europe.”

Anne, a graduate student in community-based art education, lives in Olneyville. She came to Providence this year from Detroit. “It’s a lot different. There’s a lot more going on per surface area here, a lot more community organisations, more vibrance and life on the streets.”
