Westminster Stories

This week’s Westminster Stories, in the window at 191 Westminster Street, are about Christmas.

Gary just walked out of a Providence College basketball game. “They were playing Bryant, and were up by 40 when I left.”

Kristen makes books with old maps for covers. “A lot of people like maps for a lot of different reasons – mine was because of travel and fantasy travel, but the Rhode Island ones sell a lot too.”

Bob has been downtown for 18 years, and in all that time he has had “one wonderful conversation. It was with a physics PhD student from India.”

Britta is originally from a town about an hour from Hamburg, in Germany. “I was a very happy child. If I’d been older, in my twenties, I’d probably have had more to complain about.”

This week’s Westminster Stories, in the window at 191 Westminster Street, are all about getting around.

Aneudy is the youngest of five children, and is from Providence. His parents came here from the Dominican Republic in 1976. They saved money for nearly a decade, and then brought their own parents to Providence in the 1980s.

“Soy dominicano,” he says.

Anne and Ruth are working on a classmate’s project at RISD. They’re finding locations on a Global Positioning System (GPS) device.

Rich works out of City Hall, as Director of Administration. He’s responsible for financial matters, personnel, purchasing and labor relations. “I’m staff. I don’t think I will ever run for office.”

Around five times a week, Stefanie gets up between 4.30am and 5.30am to go rowing on the Seekonk river.

Beth works in human resources for Bank of America in the Superman building. She’s been working downtown since 2004, and has seen a lot of different characters on the street. “I’m a people watcher.”
